Piracema - Création 2011

    Lia Rodrigues

For Lia Rodrigues, dance is a celebration, but a place of engagement too. Each of her creations reminds us of this in their power and beauty. In her latest piece, the choreographer continues her work into deciphering the relationships that connect the individual to the group, questions already asked in Pororoca, her earlier work also on the bill at this year's Biennale. This time, however, Lia Rodrigues draws inspiration from the experiences of her dancers - from little everyday events to their craziest dreams - to provide the raw material for her piece. From the ethereal impact of these dreams to the very tangible one made by the bodies, a lively collective emerges. Motivated by the conviction that dance has to be revolutionary, the choreographer continually reinvents her art from so that she can speak more effectively about her country, mankind and its suffering.
