Incorporer ce qui reste ici au coeur (création)Olga de Soto
TThese three works form part of a whole, the starting point of which was the production of Éclats mats, premiered in 2001 and revived in 2005 at the Pompidou Centre (Paris). The choreographic work developed in this project since then consists of the exploration and development – with regard to concept, gesture, plasticity and sound – of the paths sketched out during the production process of Éclats mats. These paths are different for each performer. The primary aim is to go further in the exploration of matter and corporal states, in the occupation of space and the relationship with time, all these elements having been set up in the course of staging the ‘mother’ play. These solos are not what they seem to be, as they could just as well be duets, trios or quartets. This project consists of linked solos, their specificity being that they are ‘accompanied solos’, in which the ‘principal’ performer benefits from the presence of one or more other dancers. By choosing the solo formula and yet deviating from it, I wish to deepen the sense of solitude which was engendered by the Éclats mats production, sometimes by emphasising it, sometimes by diminishing it. Each piece was created separately, yet they will be progressively joined together to form a single programme. The chronological structure of their names will serve to determine the title of the whole work, as well as to define the action to be developed within each section.
INCORPORER – accompanied solo #1
GB ... From front to back-stage, boy to girl, performer to choreographer, from air to water, internal to external sound, from the supple roundness of the aerial balloon to the rigid, rectilinear edge of the heavy cube, this simple layout already triggers a thousand connections. Except that subtlety, calculating the distance, is the primary characteristic of this production that invites us to the floating happiness of reflection, much more than to the constraints of commentary....
ce qui reste - accompanied solo #2
To incorporate what remains of the preceding experience: INCORPORATING. To structure a body around the tracks of the 'places' where we have been. The work that I intend to develop follows on from three experiences that profoundly shook me, and which move from a professional to a personal level. These three experiences form a field in which memory plays a fundamental role. The question of intention in movement, and of the thought-process that proceeds or accompanies this, remains at the heart of this piece. The interpretation, the production of the choreographic score are directly fed by the dance being performed, simply by being in the here and now.
ici au coeur - accompanied solo #3 premiere
This solo is attached to the first two pieces, INCORPORATING what remains; it will merge with them as it is created. The subject covered will spring from the position of its principal performer, Edith Christoph, in the two previous pieces in which she is initially spectator, then listener. This new piece is designed to counterbalance the previous two, there time stretches out, dilates; here it contracts, giving way to rupture, acceleration, accident, fall and precipitation...
Olga de Soto
Spanish-born Olga de Soto is a choreographer and performer. After her training in classical ballet, contemporary dance and musical theory in her home country, she attended the prestigious CNDC in Angers. She worked with Michèle Anne De Mey, Claudio Bernardo, Eric Pauwels, Pierre Droulers and Félix Ruckert, among others, and then began to pursue choreography in 1992 in Brussels, which partly involved the study of musical works by contemporary composers such as Salvatore Sciarrino, Michael Jarrell, Kaija Saariaho, Stefano Scodanibbio, Frederic Rzewski and Denis Pousseur. Her creative work began with the solo Patios, followed by others such as I believe that I act...(...upon the dimension of time it will be difficult to find myself at the place where I am expected to be), Hontanar, Paumes (composed of Murmures, Winnsboro Cotton Mill Blues, Strumentale and Seuls bruits des corps entre eux), Anarborescences and Éclats mats. Olga de Soto was resident choreographer at La Raffinerie in Brussels during the 1999-2002 seasons. In June 2003, she created the performance Histoire (first version), upon the request of Culturgest. In March 2004, she created Incorporer, the first solo in a series of five, whose starting point was Éclats mats and Histoire(s) at the Kunsten festival. From 1999 to 2004, she collaborated with Jérôme Bel on The Show must go on, and also worked with Boris Charmatz on the revival of Con forts fleuve. Olga de Soto is in residence in Charleroi/Danses.
